Wild & Free

from Wild & Free by Jenny Biddle

/

about

After heartbreak, Jenny found herself living on the edge of a highway in inner city Melbourne at the point of existential crises. A country girl at heart, this rootsy Mumford-&-Sons-type track is a contemplation of values, as she gets ready to realign herself for a more down-to-earth life amidst nature.
Oddly, this was a discarded song she began composing 3 years prior. It wasn't until she was one-track short of completing this new album did she revisit the song, completing it after making the move to rural Scotland and gaining fresh perspective. It since became the title track of the album.

Guitar tuning: DADGAD (Capo 2)

lyrics

Late at night on my back
Listening to the traffic jam
Wondering how to belong
We all just hurry along, just hurry along

I’ve been wasting precious time
Standing in an angry line
4.5 million souls
No one knows, no one knows

I don’t like just who I am
In this city, in this land
I don’t like just who I am, who I am
I wonder who I’d be
When I’m wild and when I’m free
I wonder who I’d be, who could I be

I’ve been hiding my disgrace
Behind the cover of a painted face
Picture this, my success
Lying to impress, to impress

Now I’m saving all my coins
Thought that I would reach the point
Buy a friend, be content
Turns out self respect is in my head

I don’t like just who I am
In this city, in this land
I don’t like just who I am, who I am
I wonder who I’d be
When I’m wild and when I’m free
I wonder who I’d be, who could I be
